When you love the look of polished concrete, but don’t have the budget to accommodate it, you may be interested in the natural appeal of a ‘cut and seal’ coating.
The back patio area of this acreage home had been painted repeatedly for a number of years, but this finish was wearing thin – literally and figuratively! The homeowners needed a simple, easy to clean surface that reflected their minimalistic lifestyle and limited budget, so a cut and seal finish was selected.
The process generally involves grinding back the existing paint finish, and exposing the aggregate beneath. In this case, we struck gold: the concrete was full of colourful stones distributed evenly across the patio, in tones of grey, sienna and ochre. Small cracks were filled with a fast fix resin before the application of a highly durable clear coat with non-slip additive. The coating added a stunning level of depth to the colouring of the floor, and most importantly, made it incredibly easy to clean.
